The Hive is a residential apartment by developers Nikal, at the centre of the Masshouse development in Birmingham City Centre. Looking directly across to the newly completed Eastside Park and the proposed HS2 station, the Hive sits at the centre of the Eastside Regeneration masterplan prepared by Glen Howells architects. TPM Landscape were commissioned to design a ‘secret garden’ for use by the residents of the apartments to create an urban oasis which maximised the unique characteristics of the location. The secret garden is located above a podium car park deck which presented construction and access challenges to the design team, but which resulted in a garden where residents can either gather socially or find a secluded spot away from the vibrant city.
